There
are several aspects to the boost in performance which AUSIX member
ISPs experience when they connect. One is the decreased latency
when accessing content hosted by other members, as they do not have
to longhaul the data over another network. Being a relatively simple
network, AUSIX has less hops than those introduced by carrier-level
providers within their infrastructure
Another benefit is redundancy, meaning that members can pick and
choose which is the fastest and/or most cost effective way to get
to particular parts of the Internet. Sometimes it will be a better
option to use AUSIX, and sometimes it won't, but it is good to have
the option available.
